Putney Beach Swim Site

Putney-Beach-Site

Putney Beach Swim Site is now open!

With the support of the NSW State Government's ‘Places to Swim’ grant, and the collaborative efforts of the local community, and the Parramatta River Catchment Group, the City of Ryde has launched Putney Beach at Putney Park.

In line with the Parramatta River Master Plan launched in 2018, the City of Ryde in partnership with the Parramatta River Catchment Group has actively worked to improve the long-term health of the river and deliver new river swimming sites, including Putney Beach.

The swim site is set to become a popular location for residents to cool off and enjoy the river, contributing to a growing network of swimming spots along the Parramatta River.

While initial delays due to complex approval processes set the project back, the Putney Beach Swim Site opened in January 2025.

The project works to date have involved three main stages of work:

  • constructing new stairs to enable community access to the river and beach area,
  • upgrading of the seawall and the installation of swim site enclosure infrastructure including swim netting to ensure safety for swimmers.

The completion of this swim site marks a major milestone in enhancing access to recreational water spaces along the Parramatta River.
