Putney Park Seawall Rehabilitation Work

  • Project typeOpen Space, Sport and Recreation
  • Project value$500,000
  • Project StatusPlanning

Following the successful completion of the new Putney Beach swim site and the adjacent seawall upgrade, the City of Ryde is now moving forward with the upgrade of the remaining foreshore seawall. With the support of the NSW State Government’s ‘Coastal and Estuary’ grant program, this project will help prevent erosion, protect the riverbanks, and enhance public safety throughout Putney Park.

What will the work involve?

The seawall upgrades will include the construction of a rock seawall in front of the existing embankment, planting of saltmarsh, landscaping and addition of sandstone logs to the top of the seawall to reduce the risk of overtopping from ferry waves.

When will the work take place?

The work is expected to commence from Wednesday 19 February 2025 with completion by July 2025, weather permitting.

Work will primarily be undertaken from Monday to Friday between 7am – 5pm. Some work will be scheduled outside these hours to coincide with tidal and marine operational requirements.

What are the changed conditions during the work?

We understand the importance of keeping Putney Park accessible for our community. While construction will be underway, the park including the newly activated swim site will remain open for public enjoyment. To ensure safety, there will be designated exclusion zones around the work area, but access to key park facilities will be maintained.

Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while this work is completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance as much as practically possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your cooperation.
