The City of Ryde is delivering a new public park that will be located close to Macquarie Park Metro Station, highly accessible from surrounding streets and will create a vibrant open space attractive for local workers, commuters and the local community.
With a project value of $10,400,000: this being the $6M grant from DPHI, $3.5M from a Council Resolution at the meeting on 25 June 2024, and $900K from the green space grants from DPHI.
The concept design for the park includes key features such as outdoor exercise equipment, event space, seating, BBQ area, public artwork, kick-about space and an amenities building.
The park has been named in honour of Dr Catherine Hamlin AC (1924 - 2020).
Dr. Catherine Hamlin AC was raised in the Hermitage, Denistone, co-founded the Addis Ababa Fistual Hospital with her husband Dr. Reginald Hamlin in Ethiopia dedicated to providing free surgery to women suffering childbirth injuries throughout Africa, in 1983 appointed a Member of the Order of Australia, nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1999, and in 2001 was awarded the Centenary Medal.
