Ryde's Historic Homes: Then and Now

Our City is home to a large number of beautiful homes that have fascinating histories.

'Womerah' - 31 Trelawney Street, Eastwood

Built in 1905, Womerah is in the Federation Queen Anne style. it was designed by former Ryde Mayor and prominent architect Charles Robert Summerhayes (1860-1948) as his residence. It is still used as a home to this day.

'Bensonville', 126 Twin Road, Ryde

Dating back to 1887, Bensonville was home to 19th century Ryde orchardists. It's a single-storey late Victorian era farm house constructed out of red bricks with a corrugated steel roof.

'Hetherwold' - 4 Auld Avenue, Eastwood

Constructed in 1907, Hetherwold is a beautiful example of a Federation Arts and Crafts style home. Formerly used as a private school and Braemar College for Girls, it was in a dilapidated state and poor condition prior to its restoration in 2012/13. 'Hetherwold' is now a private home.
