Transport for New South Wales announced that from 30 September 2018 the Epping to Chatswood rail line (which includes Macquarie University, Macquarie Park and North Ryde train stations) will be closed for a period of 7 months.
WHAT IMPACT WILL THE RAIL SHUTDOWN HAVE NEAR ME?
Council recognises that many commuters who previously used rail transport may use their private cars during the rail shutdown period. Therefore, streets located in close proximity to Macquarie University, Macquarie Park and North Ryde train stations may be the first areas that commuters will try to use to park their cars. To alleviate this issue Council is proposing to install temporary parking restrictions in these areas.
WHAT ARE THE PROPOSED TEMPORARY PARKING RESTRICTIONS?
Council is proposing to install temporary 2P (2 hour) parking restrictions in a number of residential streets in North Ryde and Marsfield (along one side of the street) to accommodate for visitor, tradesperson and any other short term parking requirements for residents. As part of this proposal any deficiencies associated with statutory ‘NO STOPPING’ restrictions and bus stop signage in the area will also be updated.
The temporary time restricted 2P (2 hour) parking will be in effect 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday on one side of the street for the duration of the upcoming rail shutdown.
CAN WE HAVE A RESIDENTIAL PARKING SCHEME INSTEAD?
Due to the rail shutdown being temporary, Council is proposing the temporary solution of 2P parking to alleviate the congestion during the rail shutdown. A Resident Parking Scheme is a permanent fixture, not temporary one. Therefore a Resident Parking Scheme is not an option as a temporary solution. However, following the rail shutdown we will consult with residents on whether the temporary 2P parking restrictions should be retained, removed or if a Residential Parking Scheme is more appropriate for the area.
