Proposed Parking Changes During Waste Collection Hours

In May 2023, the City of Ryde invited local residents to provide feedback on the proposed parking changes during waste collection in Blair Street, Gladesville.

Council thanks residents who provided a submission on the proposal at the time. Council is now providing another opportunity for residents to share their views on the proposed parking changes in Blair Street, Gladesville, who may not have been able to do so earlier this year.

What are the proposed parking changes?

Council is proposing to install ‘NO PARKING: 5AM-11AM TUES, WASTE VEHICLES EXCEPTED’ in a section along Blair Street, Gladesville, to facilitate efficient bin collection by waste collection trucks.

Why are the changes being proposed?

The parking changes are being proposed to allow safe and efficient collection of bins for 18-20 Ross Street, Gladesville.

This property has approximately 15 bins that are serviced in Blair Street on waste collection days. When vehicles are parked along Blair Street, adjacent to this property, the waste collection vehicle cannot access the bins. This unfortunately results in bins being missed.

To resolve the issue, Council is proposing to install ‘NO PARKING: 5AM-11AM TUES, WASTE VEHICLES EXCEPTED’ at this location.

Council thanks residents who provided a submission on the proposal at the time. Council is now providing another opportunity for residents to share their views on the proposed parking changes in Gladstone Avenue, Ryde, who may not have been able to do so earlier this year.

What are the proposed parking changes?

Council is proposing to install ‘NO PARKING: 5AM-11AM MON, WASTE VEHICLES EXCEPTED’ in a section along Gladstone Avenue, Ryde, to facilitate efficient bin collection by waste collection trucks.

Why are the changes being proposed?

Council received representations requesting parking restriction along a section of frontage at 15-19 Gladstone Avenue for efficient waste collection.

This property has 18 bins that need to be serviced on waste collection days. When vehicles are parked at the property frontage, the waste collection vehicle cannot access the bins. This unfortunately results in bins being missed. 

To resolve the issue, Council is proposing to install ‘NO PARKING: 5AM-11AM MON, WASTE VEHICLES EXCEPTED’ at this location.

Council thanks residents who provided a submission at the time. Your comments were appreciated and helped inform the next steps.

Following consideration of the feedback received and further investigation, Council is now proposing modified parking changes for Deborah Place, Eastwood. As such, Council again invites the community to share their views on the proposal.

What are the proposed parking changes?

Council is proposing to install ‘NO PARKING: 5AM-11AM THURS, WASTE VEHICLES EXCEPTED’ as well as ‘NO STOPPING’ in sections along Deborah Place, Eastwood, to allow easier and safer access for all vehicles.

Why are the changes being proposed?

The width of Deborah Place is 6.8m which is not enough for safe movement of vehicles particularly waste collection and emergency vehicles. The radii of the two cul-de-sacs are also not enough to facilitate safe manoeuvrer of vehicles.

To facilitate the safe and efficient movement of vehicles Council is proposing to install ‘NO PARKING: 5AM-11AM THURS, WASTE VEHICLES EXCEPTED’ as well as ‘NO STOPPING’ at sections along Deborah Place, Eastwood.

Please be advised that sections shown in yellow are ‘NO STOPPING’ zones. It is illegal to stop within 10 meters of a statutory No Stopping zone at any intersection, whether sign posted or not (Road Rule 2014 Reg 198).

Why are the changes being proposed?

Council waste collection contractors operate heavy rigid vehicles. These vehicles require sufficient space to enter streets, turn and perform collections in a safe manner.

A key factor in the provision of this service is the safety of residents and protection of private property. For this to occur, the waste vehicle must be able to enter and exit a cul-de-sac or narrow road in a forward-facing direction. Our aim is to avoid the vehicle from being placed in a situation where it must reverse or operate with impeded visibility.
