NAMING OF NEW ROADS

 City of Ryde is proposing to name new roads within the City as follows:

Proposed name History of name Where
Banda Road This is the Aboriginal name for the Dwarf Apple tree that grows in the nearby Lane Cove National Park.

 

New road running off Waterloo Road, adjacent to Macquarie Shopping Centre

 

Hedgeland Close

 

The name refers to George Hedgeland who was the government surveyor who undertook the first street alignment of Ryde's roads in the 1870s, immediately after Ryde became a municipality. He died in Ryde in 1898 and is buried in the nearby Field of Mars Cemetery.

New road running off Bowden Street, adjacent to the Shepherd's Bay foreshore.

 

FORMALISATION OF NAMING OF EXISTING ROADS

The City of Ryde is proposing to formalise the naming of a number of existing roads within the City as follows:

Giffnock Lane

 

Existing name in use

 

Private road running off Giffnock Avenue, used to access the rear of the Optus buildings on Lyonpark Road.

 

Bennelong Way

 

Existing name in use

 

Public road running along the northern side of Lardelli Park.

 

Lardelli Drive

 

Existing name in use

 

Public road running off Victoria Road, and connecting to Charles Street

 

Colebee Street

 

Existing name in use

 

Public road running off Bennelong Way and connecting to Lardelli Drive.

 

Ponton Lane

 

The name refers to multiple generations of a local family that lived adjacent to the lane since the early 1920’s.

 

Public pathway running between Watts Road and Dorothy St, parallel to Bridge Road, Ryde

 

 

This notice is hereby given under Section 7 of the NSW Roads Regulation 2018. Council has conformed to the requirements of the Geographical Names Board (GNB) as described in the NSW Address Policy and User Manual available on the GNB website at www.gnb.nsw.gov.au
