The City of Ryde is seeking feedback on the proposal to install yellow lines signifying No Stopping along Moncrief Drive between the intersection of Cressy Road and the property boundary of No.11 Moncrief Drive, and, the installation of a short section of Barrier line and associated No Stopping on Elliot Avenue, East Ryde.
The proposed parking changes:
Council is proposing to formalise the existing parking arrangements on the section of Moncrief Drive with the installation of Bus Zones, No Stopping signs and linemarking to reinforce existing restrictions.
A short section of barrier line is proposed on Elliot Avenue to improve road safety by defining the curve, to deter vehicles from cutting the corner, with associated No Stopping restrictions on the inside of the curve.
Please refer to the concept plan below to view the proposed options.
Why was the change initially considered?
The existing conditions already prevent parking in this area by statutory requirements. Under the Australian Road Rules it is illegal to park a vehicle within 3 metres of an obstruction, including barrier lines.
This road rule is not widely understood, and Council is seeking to clarify and define the restrictions to prevent illegal parking, improve traffic flow and prevent vehicles being forced over the barrier line.
