Expression of interest to attend draft District Plans – inaugural community group briefing

The Greater Sydney Commission was established in January 2016 to lead metropolitan planning for Greater Sydney.

Since our establishment, we have been talking with and listening to people with a vast range of expertise and interests. We have connected with more than 7,500 individuals and groups representing local councils, state government agencies, peak bodies, community interests and the general public.

This collaboration has informed our preparation of draft District Plans that will connect local planning with metropolitan planning for Greater Sydney. We will soon release these plans as drafts for discussion and feedback, and they will be on an extended public exhibition until the end of March 2017.

Our reach is broad, and our work will affect many people. Our ambition is to create a strong global city that is a great place to live. By this we mean Greater Sydney becomes more liveable, productive and environmentally sustainable.

The Greater Sydney Commission is taking the opportunity to brief representatives of community groups on the draft District Plans. The briefing will provide attendees with information on the plans, as well as the ways you can encourage all Sydneysiders to get involved in shaping planning for a greater Sydney.

 A representative from your organisation is warmly invited to express an interest (EOI) to attend the inaugural community group briefing to be held on day one of our briefing program. This is an opportunity for your organisation to be amongst the first to be briefed about the draft District Plans.

The details are: Monday 21 November 6pm – 8pm, at a Parramatta venue

To ensure that groups from across Greater Sydney are able to attend the briefing, we will allocate all of the 200 seats that we have capacity for. We will work with the EOIs we receive to allocate places fairly to ensure an equitable spread of representation as possible from across Greater Sydney.

Submissions can be made to the Greater Sydney Commission, please see their website for details on how you can make your submission. 

In December 2016, there was a community drop-in session in our district to find out more about the draft District Plans.

In 2017 The Greater Sydney Commission are launching some new tools to help you make submissions on the draft North District Plan. The new engagement activities over the next two months are planned to encourage and receive formal submissions from all interested Greater Sydneysiders.

These activities will include District Dialogues, Live Online, Dialogue in a Box and new submission forms. Click on the links for information about:

District Dialogues – Facilitated workshops will give locals who register, invited community groups, and a representative selection of each district’s population an opportunity to workshop priorities and actions.

Live Online – from next week the weekly live online chat is where you can ask the Commission questions to help you lodge a formal submission.

Dialogue in a box – a toolkit designed to help you and a group of friends, family, neighbours, colleagues or members of an interest group to make a submission.

Online Submission Forms – There are two new ways to make online submissions: one short and sharp for people who are keen but don’t have much time; and the other, more detailed - likely best suited to expert groups and councils. These new forms will be in addition to the current open submission form.

The community drop in sessions are an opportunity for you to find out more about the draft District Plans, and ask questions and discuss feedback with members of the district planning team. All members of the community are welcome to drop in any time during the sessions listed below:
