The City of Ryde has been awarded funding from the NSW Government ‘Streets As Shared Spaces Program’ (round 2). The second round of Streets and Shared Spaces program is providing funding for councils to undertake temporary intervention projects that improve local streets and pavements as shared spaces. This Program is a key initiative of the NSW Government’s efforts to provide high-quality public open space across the state and part of NSW Government’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Strategy.
The Gladesville Town Centre Activation project includes the temporary closure of a small section of Linsley Street between Victoria Road and Western Crescent, Gladesville. The road closure and associated infrastructure will remain in place until mid February 2023.
The project aims to create a safe, interesting and inviting public space that the community want to engage with, and contribute to revitalising the Gladesville town Centre.
During the closure, the space will trial innovative ideas that will help test and build the space for more permanent changes. It will host a range of pop up placemaking projects and activations that may include:
- Live music
- Public Art
- Creative lighting
- Community events and activities
- Passive community use
Council asked for community feedback in September 2022 for how you would like to see this space used and how it can help support the local community and businesses. As part of Round 2 we are now seeking feedback for your thoughts on the diverse range of installations and programs that will take place in this space.
