Project Update | Eastwood Town Centre - High Pedestrian Activity Area

Published on 17 March 2025

The Have Your Say period for Eastwood Town Centre - High Pedestrian Activity Area (Stage 1) occurred between 29 January and 26 February 2025. Council thanks the community for providing your feedback.

The Eastwood town centre experiences high pedestrian and traffic movements due to the retail and commercial activities and train station in the area. To help keep pedestrians and drivers safe, changes to the local road environment will be undertaken to alert motorists to lower their speed and make them aware of the presence of pedestrians.

The work will include raising the road level at entry points and intermediate points of the HPAA (raised thresholds), pavement markings, fencing and associated signage. These measures have been developed in accordance with Transport for NSW guidelines for 'High Pedestrian Activity Areas.

The Ryde Traffic Committee and Council have approved this proposal and Council has received funding from Transport for NSW under the Safer Speed 2024/25 Program to undertake this work.

When will the work take place?

Construction is anticipated to commence in Late April/Early May and concluded in June, weather permitting. Directly affected residents and businesses will be notified closer to the start of the works.
