The City of Ryde is seeking your input to create a Masterplan for Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park. We would like to hear what you currently like about these Parks, ideas and suggestions for how the Parks can be improved, managed, maintained and protected now and into the future.

Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park are located in Eastwood. Natural features include established bushland, walking tracks and Archers Creek. Existing sport, recreation and community facilities include a natural turf sportsground, 4 netball hard courts with lighting, a neighbourhood playground (currently being upgraded), amenities building, community building (licenced by Brush Farm Dog Training Club), community hall (leased by Girl Guides), scout hall (not owned or managed by Council) and a car park.

WHERE IS BRUSH FARM PARK & LAMBERT PARK?

Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park are located on the western side of Eastwood. The parklands (in combination) are bound by Lawson Street, Brush Road and Marsden Road. Car park entry is from Lawson Street. There are multiple pedestrian park entry points and walking tracks through the parklands as shown in the map below.

WHY IS A MASTERPLAN NEEDED?

Council delivers a wide range of sport, recreation and Natural Areas services through a network of regional, district, neighbourhood and local parklands, sportsgrounds and facilities.

While the network has served the community well for many years, Council recognises that within the context of a rapidly growing and changing area, the roles and functions of our parks and facilities need to be reviewed and updated to meet community and environmental needs.

This Masterplan is being prepared in response to the Sport and Recreation Strategy 2016-2026 (adopted July 2017), with consideration to the Ryde Biodiversity Plan (adopted December 2016), Community Strategic Plan (adopted March 2018), as well as the planning and heritage requirements of the Ryde Local Environmental Plan (2014).

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Parks will be included in the Masterplan?

The draft Masterplan will include Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park. The surrounding context, environmental, historic, transport, sport/recreation and social/cultural aspects will also be considered when developing the draft plan.

Is Brush Farm House part of Brush Farm Park?

No. Brush Farm House (19 Lawson St, Eastwood) does not form part of Brush Farm Park. This historic house is located on a separate parcel of land on the northern side of Lawson Street and opposite Brush Farm Park. The historic context and previous connection between the House and the parklands will be considered when developing the Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park Masterplan.

Is the Brush Farm Bowling Club (former) part of Brush Farm Park?

No. City of Ryde (Council) does not own or manage the former Brush Farm Bowling Club (corner of Marsden Road and Rutledge St). This site is privately owned and does not form part of Brush Farm Park. Under the Ryde Local Environmental Plan (2014) this parcel of land is zoned “RE2” for “private recreation” purposes.

Does the Rutledge Street road reserve form part of Brush Farm Park or Lambert Park?

No. The section of the Rutledge Street (between Brush Road and Winbourne Street) is a vegetated area which is defined as a road reserve. As a road reserve it does not form part of Brush Farm Park or Lambert Park. Council does undertake some maintenance works to the vegetation and walking tracks in this area. The connection between the Parks will be considered when developing the Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park Masterplan.

Does Council have community buildings in Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park?

Yes. There are a number City of Ryde (Council) buildings located in the Parks. These Council assets include:

Brush Farm Park:

amenities building (public toilets, canteen and change rooms)
community building (currently licenced to the Brush Farm Dog Training Club

Lambert Park:

community building (currently licenced to the Girl Guides)

Does Council own or operate the Scout Hall located near Brush Farm Park car park?

No. City of Ryde (Council) does not own or operate the Scout Hall near Brush Farm Park car park. This building is owned by Scouts NSW, located on a separate parcel of Crown land and used by the 1^st Brush Park Scout Group. This parcel of land does not form part of Brush Farm Park. However, entry/access to the Scout Hall is via Brush Farm Park.

Will heritage be considered when preparing the draft Masterplan?

Yes. The heritage and history of the Parks and the surrounding area is important. Brush Farm Park is of local heritage significance and the adjoining Brush Farm House is of state heritage significance. The historic context, heritage values and connection between the parklands and the House will be considered when developing the Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park Masterplan in accordance with the Ryde Local Environmental Plan (2014) and relevant legislation.

How is Council managing the Natural Areas in Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park?

The bushland and creek within Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park are important natural features. The native vegetation communities in the Parks provide habitat for local fauna and form part of a regional wildlife corridor. The use, management and protection of these areas are governed by:

Generic Plan of Management – Natural Areas (2021): parts of the parklands are categorised as “Natural Area – Bushland” and “Natural Area – Watercourse”.
Ryde Local Environmental Plan (2014): parts of the parklands are zoned as “C2” for “Environment Conservation”.

City of Ryde has engaged bush regeneration contractors to undertake bush regeneration works to restore the Blue Gum High Forest and rainforest throughout the Parks. Volunteers in the Brush Farm Park Bushcare Group are actively regenerating the bushland area below the Scout Hall, with some volunteers involved for over 40 years.

The environmental context and biodiversity values of the parklands will be considered in the development of the Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park Masterplan in accordance with the Ryde Biodiversity Plan (2016) and relevant legislation.

How is Council managing the sport and recreation areas in Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park?

The sport/recreation uses and management of these areas are governed by:

Generic Plan of Management – Sportsgrounds (2020): parts of the parklands are categorised as “Sportsgrounds”.
Generic Plan of Management – Parks and General Community Use (2020): parts of the parklands are categorised as “Parks”.
Ryde Local Environmental Plan (2014): parts of the parklands are zoned as “RE1” for “Public Recreation”.

The sport/recreation context of the parklands will be considered in the development of the Brush Farm Park and Lambert Park Masterplan in accordance with the Sport and Recreation Strategy 2016-2026 (2017), Council’s parks/open space strategic plans and policies.
