City of Ryde is seeking your feedback on a proposal for a new High Pedestrian Activity Area (HPAA) on the eastern side of the railway line in the Eastwood town centre.
The Eastwood town centre experiences high pedestrian and traffic movements due to the retail and commercial activities and train station in the area. To help keep pedestrians and drivers safe, changes to the local road environment are proposed to alert motorists to lower their speed and make them aware of the presence of pedestrians.
The Ryde Traffic Committee and Council have approved this proposal. Council has received funding from Transport for NSW under the Safer Speed 2024/25 Program to undertake this work. Council now invites our community’s feedback on the proposed project and anticipates work will commence in April 2025.
Where is the proposed HPAA?
The proposed HPAA precinct includes the following roads on the eastern side of the railway line in the Eastwood town centre:
- Rowe Street between Blaxland Road and East Parade
- Rowe Lane between Blaxland Road and Railway Parade
- East Parade between First Avenue and Rowe Street
- Railway Parade between Ethel Street and May Lane
- Part of Ethel Lane
- Station Lane
What are the proposed changes to the road environment?
The proposed changes include raising the road level at entry points and intermediate points of the HPAA (raised thresholds), pavement markings, fencing and associated signage.
These measures have been developed in accordance with Transport for NSW guidelines for 'High Pedestrian Activity Areas.
