The City of Ryde invites you to be part of "Common Threads", a unique community art initiative celebrating cultural diversity and connection. Led by professional local artist Sheila Tan , this interactive workshop provides an opportunity to express your creativity, share your story, and contribute to a larger community celebration.
About the Artist:
Sheila Tan is a Sydney-based painter and muralist from West Ryde, known for her expressive realism that combines vibrant splashes and bold brushstrokes with classical portraiture. Specializing in large-scale murals and canvas paintings, Sheila's work brings energy and life to walls and spaces. With a passion for public art, she is focused on creating immersive, large-scale artworks and plans to expand into interactive art forms like light installations.
Sheila draws inspiration from bright colors, nature, and other artists, fostering creativity through collaboration and her disciplined art practice. Her career highlights include assisting renowned street artist Matt Adnate and producing striking murals that connect communities.

About the Workshop:
In this hands-on session, you’ll create individual art pieces inspired by the theme "Past to Future"—honoring traditions while envisioning a brighter future. Whether you’re an experienced artist or trying your hand at art for the first time, this workshop is open to all skill levels!
At the end of the project, your artwork will be showcased at the "Common Threads Art Exhibition" in June 2025, highlighting the rich cultural tapestry of Ryde.
