Astronomy Open Night - Macquarie University
It’s like the Easter show – but for science! The annual Astronomy Open Night is the best public astronomy festival in Australia. Macquarie University will open up its observatory and campus to host an amazing array of activities including world-renowned astronomers giving fun short lectures, two magic shows (a Physics and now a new Chemistry show), Planetarium sessions, telescope viewing, and a solar system walk. Astronomy Open Night also features a Laser Guide Star demonstration, astrophotography competition, robotics displays, and a 'Cosmic Arcade' with student-made games.
Visitors can participate in hands-on experiments in the 'Phenomenal Physics and Mathematical Mysteries' room, explore space with the Discovery Academy, and learn about cutting-edge research at the 'Scientist Spotlight' sessions, while our new ‘Stand-up Science' comedy show combines scientific expertise with wit.
Distinguished Professor Jon Lawrence will deliver a keynote lecture on the next generation of extremely large telescopes - and you can check out our new Makerspace facility. Book now before we sell out!
(Astronomy Open Night will proceed regardless of weather conditions.)
