Termites
Termites or ‘white ants’ feed on wood and can cause extensive damage to buildings and other structures.
It is the obligation of the property owner to protect their property from termite attack.
New buildings that are susceptible to termite attack are required to have a termite barrier system installed at the time of construction.
Even with a termite barrier installed, it is still possible for termites to attack a building and effective control relies on regular maintenance and inspection:
- Keep exposed slab edges clear of soil, leaves and other debris
- Ensure that sub-floor areas are provided with adequate ventilation and easy access
- Arrange annual inspections by a licensed pest controller.
If an infestation is identified an appropriate remedial treatment will need to be carried out by a licensed pest controller. Licensed pest controllers are listed in the Yellow Pages under Pest Control.
