Cockroaches
Cockroaches have the potential to transfer disease organisms on their bodies. Cockroaches can also contaminate food, surfaces and utensils with their faeces.
Cockroaches usually hide during the day and come out at night to feed. Given suitable shelter, the size of the population depends on the amount of food available.
Control of cockroaches:
- Keep food-handling areas clean
- Do not leave dirty dishes overnight
- Store food in containers with tight-fitting lids
- Store garbage in covered vermin-proof containers
- Where possible, seal any holes or crevices that may allow the entry or harbour cockroaches
- Use insecticide sprays, baits or traps to control cockroach infestations, taking care to follow the label directions.
Persistent problems may need to be treated by a licensed pest controller. Licensed pest controllers are listed in the Yellow Pages under Pest Control.
