Ryde Shines for People with Disability
Published on 09 September 2024
We’re inviting People with Disability to enter the Ryde Shine Ability Talent Competition. Whether your gift is singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument or another unique talent, we want to hear from you.
If you’re living, working, studying or socialising in the City of Ryde, it’s time to have some fun and go in the running to win some fantastic prizes.
The competition prizes total $7,500 including vouchers for recording sessions or music lessons at Katcha Music and a three-month contract with Diverse Talent Management.
Up to eight (8) finalists will be selected to perform on International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) on Tuesday 3 December 2024 at the North Ryde School of Arts. Performing in front of a packed audience will be an exciting and exhilarating experience.
To support the talents, winners will also be invited to perform at Council events in 2025.
Applications open today Monday 9 September, and close on Friday 18 October 2024.
More information about the competition can be found on the Ryde Shine Ability Talent Competition webpage.
The competition is an action that came out of the City of Ryde Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) under ‘Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours,’ which includes:
- Celebrate and value people with disability in the community
- Facilitate programs that improve social inclusion.
As part of DIAP, we want to make sure that people with disability, their families, and support workers participate and are included in our community - ensuring that our facilities, and services are accessible for all.
Our Live Music Plan 2024 - 2028 also aims to provide the following opportunities for people with disability:
- Environments where everyone has access to live music in a safe environment.
- Pathways for emerging musicians, including access to venues and events for performances
- Accessible spaces for musicians to perform, experiment, and develop new work.
We look forward to seeing the community of Ryde shine!
Leading up to IDPwD there will be a range of events to give People with Disability the opportunity to socialise, be entertained and informed, plus provides a networking for their carers. Please register online for these events and more.
