Mayor congratulates King's Birthday Honourees

City of Ryde Mayor Clr Trenton Brown has recognised six local residents who received awards in the recent King’s Birthday Honours List for their outstanding contributions to the community.

Clr Brown congratulated the Honourees through a Mayoral Minute that received unanimous support at Council’s 25 June 2024 Ordinary Meeting.

“Our local award recipients have been recognised for a variety of wonderful contributions in fields ranging from social welfare to education, the environment, Veterans assistance, multicultural work, and sport,” Clr Brown said.

“It’s further evidence of how diverse and harmonious the City of Ryde community is – and it displays an unwavering commitment by some very special people to continually give back through selfless hard work and volunteerism.

“The Honours awarded on 10 June were richly deserved and I offer my hearty congratulations and appreciation to these six remarkable City of Ryde citizens.”

The recipients are:

Brianna Casey AM - Member of the Order of Australia Medal: Brianna received this award for her significant service to social welfare, environmental conservation and to the community.  Brianna has been the CEO of Foodbank Australia and the Australian Representative for Global Foodbanking Network since 2016.

Penelope Gillies OAM - Medal of the Order of Australia: Penelope received this award for her services to athletics as a Coach and Competitor. Penelope has represented Australian Athletics coaching in World Championships, Commonwealth and Olympic Games since 1996. Penelope has received numerous awards and recognitions for Athletics coaching. 

Henry Jones OAM - Medal of the Order of Australia: Henry received this award for his services to Veterans. Henry was in the Australian Defence Force and has been an avid Lions Club Member since 2003.

Austin Kim OAM - Medal of the Order of Australia: Austin received this award for his services to the Korean Community of New South Wales. Austin was the co-founder of the Australian Korean Welfare Association in 1978 and has received numerous awards for volunteering and was awarded a Korean Government Award by the Prime Minister in 2010.

Judith King OAM - Medal of the Order of Australia: Judith received this award for her service to secondary education. Judith was the Principal at Riverside Girls High School from 1995-2010 and has been a life member of the NSW Secondary Principals Council since 2001.

Peter Millington OAM - Medal of the Order of Australia: Peter received this award for his service to water conservation. Peter has worked for the NSW Department of Water Resources from 1983-1995 and was Deputy Director-General of the NSW Department of Land and Water Conservation from 1995-1996.
