First stage of Catherine Hamlin Park
Published on 05 August 2024
The works on the first stage of Catherine Hamlin Park on Waterloo Road, Macquarie Park, are close to finalisation. This is the type of green space that the City of Ryde has been advocating so strongly for with the NSW Government. More guaranteed open space is required to ensure that the Government can strike the right balance between housing, employment, innovation and infrastructure in the vital Macquarie Park Innovation District.
Dedicated to influential Australian surgeon and esteemed Ryde resident, Dr Catherine Hamlin, upon completion later next year, the park will offer great quality open space and amenity for nearby businesses and workers.
At the June Council Meeting, City of Ryde resolved an additional $3,500,000 from the Council’s s7.11 Open Space Embellishment plan, allowing for a much better quality of open space to be included in the scope of works, and to pay due homage to Dr Hamlin for the great work she performed over many years for disadvantaged communities.
City of Ryde has been working in collaboration with Property NSW over the past 18 months to commence the project, which had originally been funded in 2012 by the previous State Government with a $6 million grant.
The project’s next stage which will involve high quality public domain aspects including an amenities building, amphitheatre, walkways, gardens, park furniture, outdoor gym equipment, and a grassed area that can be used for markets and Council events.
