Mayor's Message
12 March
MPID INFRASTRUCTURE
The City of Ryde has continued to advocate strongly for the State Government to strike the right balance between housing, employment and essential infrastructure at our vital Macquarie Park Innovation District (MPID) and a document on public display until 30 March could go some way to solving the last part of that puzzle.
The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) has prepared the Draft Macquarie Park Corridor Section 7.12 Local Infrastructure Contributions Plan 2025 (Draft Plan), with input from Council staff.
The Draft Plan will be Council’s primary mechanism to fund local infrastructure in the Macquarie Park corridor, which faces significant housing uplift under the State Government’s Transport Oriented Development (TOD) proposal.
If adopted, the Draft Plan - which proposes a 4 percent levy for residential and mixed-use development - is projected to earn Council an estimated additional $96 million over 20 years, compared to the current Section 7.11 Development Contributions Plan 2020.

ACCESSIBLE BUS STOPS
I’m pleased to report that Council is making significant progress in improving accessibility at bus stops to ensure public transport is inclusive for all residents.
A total of 296 bus stops are currently included in Council’s Bus Stop Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) Compliance Program. The program includes the installation of tactile ground indicators, compliant seating, and improved boarding areas.
The first round of completed works involved the installation of audio tactiles at 57 bus stops and the upgrading of 88 bus shelters to comply with DDA requirements.
The program is planned for completion in 2027, subject to site investigations, latent site conditions, and weather impacts.
IWD CELEBRATION
I’m looking forward to joining the community on Saturday 8 March at Council’s International Women’s Day Forum, being held at the North Ryde School of Arts from 9.00am – 12.00pm.
International Women’s Day is a day when all women are recognised for their achievements, with this year’s theme being ‘March Forward’, commemorating 30 years since the United Nation’s Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for achieving gender equality.
The free Forum will feature brilliant keynote speakers Simone O’Brien and Dr Juliette Tobias-Webb, with a performance by former Australian Idol finalist Cosima De Vito. A delicious morning tea will be provided by local caterer Gharibian House.
