Mayor's Community Message
22 October
TREE PLANTING
Please join me at Mallee Reserve in Gladesville on Saturday 25 October between 10.00am and 12.00pm for my Mayor’s Tree Planting Day, a fantastic initiative that will help to improve a vital local wildlife corridor.
This will be a great day for the whole family as we help to fill the Reserve with beautiful native plants. You’ll not only be helping to improve the local environment, but you’ll also be able to watch over time as the plantings flourish into a haven for native wildlife.
All tools, gloves and training will be provided – you just need to bring your enthusiasm! Please wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, enclosed shoes and a hat. A free BBQ and refreshments will be provided for participants to enjoy at midday.

PARKRUN ANNIVERSARY
I’m delighted to be able to help celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Macquarie Park Parkrun on Saturday 25 October.
This is a wonderful community activity promoting exercise and healthy living that has proved to be an outstanding success since its introduction in October 2024, becoming one of more than 500 Parkrun locations throughout Australia.
Parkrun is about inclusiveness and wellbeing, regardless of athletic ability. It is an effective community fitness initiative where everyone has the chance to feel part of a global fitness community.
I’d like to congratulate the organisers at Parkrun Australia for making the course in the scenic Macquarie University campus such a wonderful addition to City of Ryde’s sport and recreation options.

GARBA CELEBRATION
On Saturday 11 October, Ryde
was transformed into a vibrant celebration of dance, music, and culture as the Indian Ocean Society Australia (IOSA) hosted our City’s first-ever Garba event.
The atmosphere was truly electric – families, children and adults all came together to enjoy the lively beats, colourful attire, and joyful sense of unity that filled the evening.
The City of Ryde was proud to support this wonderful initiative, which showcased the spirit of inclusivity and cultural celebration that makes our community so special. With food and craft stalls, traditional performances and spontaneous dancing that brought smiles to everyone’s faces, the event was a perfect example of how culture connects us all.
It was a resounding success and I’m confident this is just the beginning of a new Ryde tradition.

Sincerely,
Trenton Brown – Mayor
